It reminded me that carving out set moments to pause and connect with God can truly nourish the soul throughout the day. Your reflection on those “sweet hours” felt both grounding and uplifting. Thank you for sharing such an inviting invitation to more rhythm in our spiritual lives!

It allows my soul to truly rest. To settle into a place without striving, a place of peace and calm. When all the world around is raging and devoid of silence it provides a place of quiet.
Many thanks to you dear Ruth.

With laptop, iPad and the complete onslaught of social media…I have been distracted and this is so dangerous. Seeing this today has re-minded me of the great need for a “fixed-hour of prayer”–I’m beginning today. It might start with five minutes, but I’m starting. Thank you.

I appreciate your description of written prayers. They do allow the words to sink into my heart without effort of thinking. They are like salve to my soul. I used to think like you that they were just rote and meaningless. I appreciated your thoughts as they give me permission to rest and receive deep nourishment.

“Instead of getting caught up in the ego’s attempts to say something profound to God (and to the people around me!), I actually rested from all of that and prayed. Instead of listening to someone else’s interpretation or application of Scripture, I heard Scripture read without comment and listened for what God was saying to me in the context of our relationship.”

This is helpful for me to consider as I have always struggled to find liturgy meaningful. I find it hard to listen and “own” the words as they are read, but I value hearing your perspective!
